Tillu Tajpuriya gang shooters behind Gogi gang member murder arrested: Delhi Police

New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) Two sharpshooters and an informant associated with the notorious Tillu Tajpuriya gang, involved in the recent killing of a member of the rival Gogi gang in Alipur area, have been arrested by Delhi Police’s Outer North district and Special Cell personnel, in two separate operations, an official said on Sunday.

Police officials said that the murder was planned and orchestrated from a city prison to assert dominance and to avenge gang leader Tajpuriya’s death in jail by Gogi gang members.

The accused were identified as Vishal, a resident of Haryana’s Sonepat, Happy, a resident of Alipur, and Bharat Kumar aka Babu, a resident of Haryana’s Charkhi Dadri district.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Rajeev Ranjan Singh said that on April 22, Narender Malik aka Dhilla, a resident of Dhuliya colony, Alipur was shot dead while Tarun Yadav, sustained injuries after unidentified persons opened fire on them near a bus stop.

During the inquiry, it was revealed that Malik’s brother, namely Surender aka Monu, is an active member of the Gogi gang and has been in jail for the last four years in a murder case. Malik, along with his associates, joined the Gogi gang and became an active member after the arrest of his brother.

The Additional Commissioner of Police said that inter-gang rivalry was suspected as Malik was connected with the Gogi gang, but all angles were being investigated.

However, during the investigation, it was ascertained that this murder was the result of an old rivalry between the Tajpuriy and the Gogi gangs.

“The team analysed the CCTV footage near the spot and found that a total of five assailants opened fire on the tempo in which the deceased and injured were sitting,” said Singh.

All five assailants arrived on two motorcycles, and after committing the crime, they swiftly fled towards Jindpur in Alipur.

“Thereafter, the team, based on technical surveillance and local intelligence, successfully apprehended two persons, namely Happy and Vishal,” the Additional CP said, adding that Vishal is an active sharpshooter of the Tajpuriya gang who, along with his four associates, namely Sumit aka Jhumka, Sagar, Neeraj, and Bharat Kumar, opened fire on Malik and Yadav, killing the former and injuring the latter.

Further, it was also revealed that accused Happy was present at the spot and was continuously providing information to the assailants through a mobile phone about the movement of Malik.

“During interrogation, accused Vishal disclosed that on the instructions of jailed gangster Amit aka Dabang, they, along with their associates, namely Sumit aka Jhumka, Sagar, and Neeraj, opened fire on Narender and injured Tarun Yadav,” the Additional CP said.

Vishal also disclosed that he came into contact with Amit through one of his friends.

“In March 2024, Amit provided a safe house to him and his associate Sagar for the murder of a member of the Gogi gang, and said that the name of the gang member would be provided to them later on,” the police official said.

A day before the crime, the other accused joined them in Nathupura in the Sonipat border area. Sumit provided pistols and cartridges to other assailants, while the two motorcycles used in the crime were also provided by henchmen of Amit near Hanuman Mandir, Alipur.

Bihar: BPSC asks students to stay away from people demanding money for selection

Patna, July 30 (IANS) Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has advised the candidates, who recently appeared in the Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE) 3, to avoid any individuals demanding money to secure selection.

In a letter released on Tuesday, the BPSC has set up a helpline number, 8986422296, for candidates to report such incidents and has requested to provide the phone numbers and bank account details of those involved in these fraudulent activities.

The commission emphasised that candidates and their parents should not engage in any financial transactions for placement on the merit list.

“Those found guilty of such practices will face debarment from future BPSC examinations and may also be subject to legal action,” the commission said.

Furthermore, the BPSC asked against being misled by coaching institutions, media, YouTube channels, or social media accounts spreading false information or creating rumours.

“Those responsible for such activities will also face legal consequences,” the commission said.

BPSC issued the letter after several candidates reported receiving fake calls promising to increase their scores for the TRE-3 examination.

The examination has already been completed, and the results will be announced soon. The answer key has also been uploaded on the official BPSC website.

Reports said that the fraudulent callers have been demanding sums ranging from Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000 for securing a place on the merit list or for selection in the candidates’ home districts.

According to an official, this is a new strategy employed by cyber fraudsters who are targeting BPSC TRE-3 candidates as the results are expected to be released shortly.

These fraudsters have reportedly obtained candidate data and are using names and other details to convincingly pose as genuine officials associated with the commission, claiming they have the influence to increase numbers.

The BPSC has advised candidates to be vigilant and report any such calls to the helpline number provided.

IANS Interview: Congress is divided and ineffective, claims Jairam Thakur

Shimla, July 30 (IANS) In an interview with IANS on Tuesday, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Opposition leader in the Assembly, Jairam Thakur, sharply criticised the current government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for alleged non-performance.

Thakur also claimed that the Congress is divided into multiple factions and is fragmented due to its inefficacy.

Responding to allegations that the BJP was attempting to topple the Himachal government, Thakur said, “I keep reiterating that no effort has been made from our side to bring down the government. However, should circumstances arise where such a situation is necessary, we will consider it.

“The Congress is already struggling internally, with many factions at odds, and this internal discord is leading to its downfall. They blame us for their troubles, but if they keep doing that, it will only further highlight their instability. The future stability of the Congress government is in question.”

Thakur also slammed the Sukhu government for allegedly mishandling funds for a medical device park.

He said during the previous government, Himachal had successfully competed to secure one of the three medical device parks allocated across the country, with an expected investment of Rs 300 crore and Central assistance of around Rs 100 crore.

Despite this, he claimed, the current government is returning the funds and making excuses about setting its own conditions, which he believes is detrimental to the state’s interests.

On the issue of unfulfilled promises, Thakur accused the state government of financial mismanagement and failing to deliver on its commitments.

He also claimed that development work has been stalled over the past 18 months and that employees are struggling with delayed salaries.

According to Thakur, Congress’ inability to fulfil its 10 promises will lead to significant trouble for the party.

He also attributed the Congress’ defeat in the Lok Sabha polls to such non-performance, as he forecast a grim future for the party.

Goa to pull down 'unauthorised' hoardings of Sri Lankan casinos

Panaji, July 30 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the House on Tuesday that hoardings of Sri Lankan casinos promoting online gaming will be pulled down in the coastal state.

Goa Forward Party MLA Viaji Sardesaid raised the issue during the Question Hour, demanding action against the unauthorised casino advertisements.

“Sri Lankan sasinos are advertising in Goa. I had raised this issue earlier. I even lodged an official complaint with the Home Department citing that casinos from other countries are advertising here by violating Section 12 of the Goa Daman and Diu Gambling Act. But nothing was done,” Sardesai said.

Sardesai also claimed that the concerned officials used a dilly-dally approach in taking action in the matter.

“Online gaming is considered illegal. The GST Council doesn’t allow online gaming. So how are these adversements being allowed,” he questioned.

In reply, CM Sawant said a case has been booked at the Porvorim police station with regard to unauthorised advertisements by Sri Lankan casinos.

“We are taking action against such unauthorised hoardings. We have taken legal opinion, and more cases will be registered,” he told the House.

“Hoardings of those having casinos in Sri Lanka and trying to operate online gaming from here will not be allowed. The state is not earning any revenue out of it. Our advertising policy is not finalised, and they are taking benefit of it. But I can assure you that we will pull down the hoardings or raze them,” Sawant said.

Maha Cabinet to bring ordinance to regulate prisons, correctional services

Mumbai, July 29 (IANS) The Maharashtra Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday gave its approval to bring in an ordinance for the implementation of the Maharashtra Prisons and Correctional Services Bill, 2024, similar on the lines of the Union government’s Model Prisons Act, 2023.

This aims to regulate prisons, correctional services and prisoners.

It also aims to holistically address all relevant issues relating to prison administration as the pre-independence archaic laws need to be repealed and replaced by a consolidated, progressive and robust law in sync with contemporary modern-day needs and correctional ideology.

The state government had tabled the Bill during the Monsoon Session of the State Legislature but it was not passed.

Therefore, the State Cabinet decided to adopt an ordinance route for its implementation.

The Bill has proposed categories of prisons such as special prison, open prison for women, temporary prison, open colony and Boratkar institution.

Open prisons and colonies will assist prisoners in their rehabilitation and reintegration into the society after release.

There is a provision for the constitution of the Prison and Correctional Services Force, establishment of the welfare fund for all officers and staff of the prison and prisoners.

It proposes prison segregation of various categories of prisoners and for their special needs such as women, transgender, undertrial, convicted, high-risk prisoners, habitual offenders, recidivist prisoners, young offenders and civil prisoners.

In the wake of deaths of inmates in the prisons, it will be mandatory for the medical officer to record all relevant details and particulars of the case and the officer in-charge must immediately inform about the dearth to the concerned Deputy Inspector General of Police and the Director General of Police. They must inform the National Human Rights Commission and other authorities.

The prison staff or officer, designated by the Superintendent must examine everything carried in or out of the prison and may stop and search or cause to be searched any person, suspected of bringing any prohibited articles or taking away any property belonging to the prison.

If any of such article or property is found, the prison staff or officer must give immediate intimation to the officer in-charge of the prison.

The Director General of Police, the Special Inspector General or the Deputy Inspector General of Police may take disciplinary action against any officer or staff of prison for misconduct.

The Bill has proposed power of arrest without warrant in the case of assaults and damage to the property and any attempts to commit a cognisable offence which involves or which is likely to involve imminent danger to the life of any person engaged in carrying on any work related to prisoners or officers and staff of prison or any other person or prison property.

The Director General of Police must ensure that all prisons are inspected by an officer of appropriate rank at periodic intervals.

The government must constitute a welfare fund for the welfare of all officers and staff and correctional services.

In a serious bid to avid unholy nexus between the prison staff and inmates, the Bill has proposed that the officers and staff and their relatives must not have any business dealings with prisoners and interest in prison contracts directly or indirectly.

They must not accept any gift from a prisoner or prisoners’ relatives or friends or a person having any dealings with the prisons.

Similarly, it will be mandatory for the prisoners to strictly follow rules with regard to discipline.

In the case of breach, the officer in-charge will have powers to impose punishments for committing prison offences, including unauthorised use or possession of wireless communication devices, mobile phones, electronic devices, trespassing or attempt to trespass, loitering in and around the prison premises where the entry is prohibited, unauthorised communication with any person outside prison, smuggling or attempt to smuggle of any prohibited article, participation or organisation of anti-social activities like gambling and betting and sexual harassment or sodomy.

According to the Bill, separate enclosures or wards for women and transgender prisoners, both transmen and transwomen may be provided and they must be provided access to healthcare and correctional programmes.

The Bill has proposed after care rehabilitation services to all needy prisoners released from a prison with a view to ensuring their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
