Now UP exempts ‘The Kerala Story’ from sales tax

The controversial film The Kerala Story has been declared tax-free in the state of Uttar Pradesh, joining Madhya Pradesh in doing so.

Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, made the announcement on Tuesday via Twitter.

Initially billed as “unearthing the events behind… approximately 32,000 women… allegedly missing from Kerala,” the May 5, 2023 theatrical release of The Kerala Story starring Adah Sharma and others was met with scepticism.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist and the Congress Party in Kerala argue that the video exaggerates the number of women radicalised and sent on terror missions across India and the world from 32,000 to 100%.

The original trailer for the film featured a 32,000 person cast, however that number was later reduced.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is just one of several BJP officials who have praised the film.
