Kolkata, July 5 (IANS) Taking a lesson from the Hathras stampede, the entire area in and around the iconic Tarakeswar temple in West Bengal’s Hooghly district will be wrapped under a blanket security cover ahead of the Shravani Mela.

At a meeting chaired by the Tarakeswar Municipality chairman, Uttam Kundu and attended by senior district-level administrative and police officers, it was decided to increase the security within the temple premises and the roads leading to the temple.

A control room will be opened from where CCTV footage will be constantly monitored and corrective measures will be taken as per the situation. An official of Tarakeswar Municipality said that in the meeting it was decided to increase the number of entry gates to the temple premises.

It has also been decided that additional personnel from the police, fire services and disaster management departments will be deployed during the festive days.

According to Kundu, special parking zones will be allotted for the vehicles entering the town carrying pilgrims. “The municipal authorities will make adequate arrangements for water supply as well as to illuminate the roads leading to the temple premises,” he added. At the same time, separate health centres will be set up in adequate numbers to address any emerging emergency.

LoP Rahul Gandhi should be locked & slapped inside Parliament: K’taka BJP MLA

Published

By

Bengaluru, July 8 (IANS) Karnataka BJP MLA Bharat Shetty on Monday stirred a major controversy, saying the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi should be locked up and slapped inside the Parliament for his alleged anti-Hindu remarks.

“LoP Rahul Gandhi should be locked up and slapped inside Parliament. This act will lead to the filing of seven to eight FIRs. If LoP Rahul Gandhi comes to Mangaluru city, we will arrange the same for him,” MLA Shetty said.

He said that LoP Rahul Gandhi was holding a picture of the Hindu god Shiva. “That madman does not know that if Lord Shiva opened his third eye, he (LoP) would turn into ashes. They have adopted an anti-Hindu policy. It is evident that LoP Rahul Gandhi is a madman. He thinks that Hindus will quietly listen to whatever he says about them. If he ‘barks’ in Parliament, the local leaders will start wagging their tails here,” Shetty said.

He said it is BJP’s duty to protect Hindu religion and institutions. “The Congress has begun to convey that Hindus and Hindutva are different. Hindus will face danger in the future because of such leaders. They will create a situation where Hindus will not step out of their houses,” he said.

He alleged that LoP Rahul Gandhi will turn into a secular person when he visits Kerala and he will become an atheist in Tamil Nadu.

“When he comes to Gujarat, LoP Rahul Gandhi becomes an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva,” he alleged.

He said that after getting only 99 Lok Sabha seats in the general election, LoP Rahul Gandhi is claiming to have made a great achievement.

“Shivaji and Maharana Pratap were born in the Hindu community. We will take out weapons whenever there is a need. We know very well how to retaliate after worshipping the weapons. LoP Rahul Gandhi will be alright after a tight slap inside Parliament,” he said.

Bhopal, July 8 (IANS) In a significant development, a Maoist carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh was killed during an encounter with security forces in Madhya Pradesh’s Balaghat, while the search for others is underway, police said on Monday.

The encounter took place under the Hatta police station when the security forces (Hawk force of MP Police) were carrying out a search operation on the basis of input received regarding the presence of Maoists in the region.

During a search operation, security forces noticed a group of people dressed in white clothes were trying to hide themselves. When the security forces tried to stop them, they started firing and ran away.

The deceased Maoist has been identified as Ukas alias Sohan (30), a resident of the Maoist-hit Sukma district in the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh. He has been carrying out Maoist activities in the Bhoramdev region for the last several years.

Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Jaydeep Prasad said that an alert has already been issued as input was received about the presence of some more Maoists who are planning for a big attack on security forces and the search operations are being carried out.

SC asks Centre to mull formation of menstrual leave policy

Published

on

By

New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to mull the formation of a menstrual leave policy after consulting all stakeholders, including the state governments.

A bench, headed by CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, asked the PIL litigant to move a representation before the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development with a copy to Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati.

Disposing of the plea, the Bench, also comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said: “We request the Secretary, Union Ministry of Women and Child Development to look into the matter. After due consultation with all stakeholders, both the Union and the States shall consider whether it is feasible to frame a model policy on menstrual leave.”

The apex court cautioned that mandating menstrual leave policy might stop employers from hiring women at the workplace, clarifying its order will not come into the way of framing independent policy by the state government.

“This menstrual leave policy is purely a ‘policy issue’ to be considered at the governmental level,” it remarked.

The petitioner submitted that many private organisations in the country have brought menstrual leave policies on their own and worldwide, including the UK, China, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, South Korea, Spain, and Zambia, such a policy is already in place.

The plea, filed through advocate Shashank Singh, said that the ‘menstrual status’ of a woman is not only a right personal and intrinsic to her privacy but is required to be treated without discrimination and with dignity.

“This would require the State to come out with such measures which provide the required relief to a woman during menstrual pain so that she is able to cope up with the suffering and protect her personal right with dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution.”

In December last year, then Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, in a statement in Rajya Sabha, said that menstruation does not call for a specific policy for granting paid leave.
