Lucknow, Feb 8 (IANS) Former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Manoj Pandey has filed an FIR at the Cantt police station against the manager of the insurance arm of a nationalised bank on charges of duping him of several lakhs of rupees in the name of life insurance policy.

An FIR was registered against Ramakant Pandey, manager, PNB Metlife India Insurance under various charges, including 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach), 467 (forging documents), 468 (forgery), and 471 (dishonesty).

Manoj Pandey in his complaint said that in 2019, a man who claimed to be the manager of the PNB Metlife India Insurance approached him at his Dilkusha house and explained to him about a life insurance scheme.

“He told me that by depositing an installment of approximately Rs 10 lakh per year, I will get a return of Rs 39 lakh 20 thousand after three years along with a bonus of Rs 5.37 lakh. A total of Rs 44,57,554 lakh will be returned to me. Also, if I want to withdraw my money, I will get the same amount back. He also said that if I withdraw the money after four years, I will get a total bonus of Rs 63.23 lakh,” said the complainant.

He further said, “When my CA asked for scheme details for better understanding, he sent the details through an email. On payment of the first installment of Rs 10 lakhs, I received two bonds which I sent to my CA to match the scheme details which were found to be different from the scheme discussed with the manager.”

“When contacted, the said manager assured me in writing that I will get the plan (benefit) as discussed earlier. On his assurance, I paid the second installment of Rs 9,78,469 and the third installment of Rs 9,78,470,” he said.

The complainant said he gave all three installments to the manager through a bank cheque.

“The fourth installment of Rs 9,78,470 was given to the said manager in the year 2022, but the amount of the fourth installment was returned to my account by PNB company after some time.

“When I informed the said manager about this, he said that amount was returned due to delay in depositing the fourth installment. Now the installment would be deposited only after the medical examination of the policyholder,” he said.

“In this sequence, the said manager came with a man who he claimed to be a medical expert to my legislative Assembly secretariat room and examined me in the presence of my PRO, PSO and two MLAs. Later, I gave him the fourth installment through a bank draft, but even after four months of giving the draft, I have not received the receipt despite approaching the said manager several times,” said the former minister in his FIR.

He said that when he went to the office of PNB Met Life, the officer there informed him that the fourth installment is not showing in the records and that the company has cancelled the policy citing health reasons.

“The said manager cheated and betrayed me through forged documents,” said the former minister in his FIR.

Bengaluru, June 6 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that rowdy elements should be afraid of the police, adding that it is a shame that some policemen do not even know that the e-beat system is in place.

He also released a new software on the occasion.

“Who are the drug dealers? The respective station officials know who the rowdies and real estate agents are.” He asked why it was not stopping.

He congratulated Home Minister G. Parameshwara and the Karnataka Police for maintaining law and order without communal riots in the state in the last one year.

New Delhi, July 6 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian for his election as Iran’s new President.

“Looking forward to working closely with you to further strengthen our warm and long-standing bilateral relationship for the benefit of our people and the region,” PM Modi said in a post on X.

India-Iran partnership in various sectors, including connectivity, has expanded tremendously in recent times, especially during the tenure of Iran’s late President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi who passed away in a helicopter crash in May this year.

India had also observed a day’s state mourning as a mark of respect to the late Iranian President and other eight people, including the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who lost their lives in the tragic accident.

It was also under India’s presidency that Iran joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Both countries have fast-tracked infrastructure cooperation, focusing especially on the Chabahar project and the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) – the 7,200 km-long multimodal trade corridor linking Russia with India via the ports of Iran.

K'taka MUDA land scam: 'If there is no connection, why transfer DC?', Pralhad Joshi to CM Siddaramaiah

Published

By

Hubballi (Karnataka), July 6 (IANS) Reacting over the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam allegedly involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi asked the Congress-led state government that if no corruption took place within the government body then why was the Mysuru District Commissioner transferred.

Speaking to the media in Hubballi, Union Minister Joshi said: “The MUDA scam involves massive corruption and it is evident at the outset. In 2017, the decision was taken and the MUDA land scam took place with the full knowledge of CM Siddaramaiah.”

He added that Rs 4,000 crore corruption took place involving MUDA land which the Congress government claims was awarded during the previous BJP government.

However, the transactions happened between 2013 and 2018 during the first term of Siddaramaiah as Chief Minister, the Minister said.

“This is a major scam committed for self-gains. The investigation has to be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). If CM Siddaramaiah claims that he has done nothing, then the scam must be handed over to the CBI,” Union Minister Joshi added.

“The Congress dubbed the BJP government as a 40 per cent government without any basis. The defamation suit was filed in the court. Now, there is the role of CM Siddaramaiah in two scandals — the MUDA scam and tribal welfare board scam,” he alleged.

“On the one hand, there is the Valmiki tribal welfare board’s scam, on the other hand, the MUDA scam has come to light. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had arrested a few persons to hide the case. Former Minister B. Nagendra is served notice only on Friday. There is a conspiracy to hush up everything. CM Siddaramaiah’s government is mired in corruption,” Joshi said.

“There is no development work under CM Siddaramaiah-led government. No development works are taken up in the name of bogus guarantee schemes. The funds reserved for Dalits are being used for guarantees,” the Minister claimed.
